The Regional Policy Dialogue on Enhancing the Financial Sustainability and Effectiveness of Social Protection Systems in South Asia, which was held on 21-23 May 2014 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a product of UNICEF ROSA’s longstanding partnership with SAARC in promoting Policy Dialogue on children’s issues. The event is a response to the SAARC Social Charter‘s call for a “practical platform for concerted, coherent and complementary action in enhancing the equity and sustainability of social programmes”. It is also part of UNICEF’s aim to support government to develop and strengthen social protection systems, and advocate for child-sensitive social protection, as outlined in UNICEF’s Social Protection Strategic Framework.
The Policy Dialogue is a concrete effort to promote the fulfillment of commitments taken by SAARC member states in the area of social protection and on the promotion of children’s rights. Its aim is to support the implementation of sustainable and effective social protection systems in SAARC member states. The methodology for the workshop is based on the principles of confidential peer-to-peer learning and exchange.
